BAND TOGETHER

GreySun Technologies is dedicated in honor of Greyson Spector.

Although Grey took his life in March of 2020, we believe that this company in his name, the team of people here that he inspires, and the impact GreySun has on customers are all testaments to not only his continued presence but also the often personally unrecognized worth and impact of all people who struggle with mental health.

We are dedicated to helping people like him.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to reduce substance misuse and mental illness fueled death.

OUR APPROACH

At GreySun Technologies, we believe in an evidence-based approach to proactive health solutions. We implement 3 majorly supported recommendations:

  1. Have individuals set a limit of intoxication before they begin drinking. Evidence shows that counting drinks is ineffective and a breathalyzer is required.

  2. Current breathalyzers simply present users with their blood alcohol content. This promotes “competitive drinking”. Instead, we show a green, yellow, or red LED signal representing where the user is relative to their set limit of intoxication.

  3. Set up a network of social accountability. Tight-knit and trusted communities are the most effective means of signaling help when it is needed.

These are foundational guidelines of the GreyBand’s design. The next step is to shape these proven methods into an experience that someone like Grey would accept.

Tribute from CEO; Cade Spector, including brief biography

Grey Spector, the oldest of myself and three brothers, was my role-model and mentor in life. He played chess, so I played chess. He did speech and debate, so I did speech and debate. He went to Duke, so I followed him there, where I graduated with a degree in Philosophy like him.

I was never at Grey’s level – he was the big brother after all – but he took me under his wing with a tremendous level of care and intention. He would practice debate topics with me, he would beat me 10 games of chess in a row, and every time, with a smile on his face, he would break it down explaining where I went wrong and where I’ve improved. This wasn’t because I was his brother either; since his passing, so many people have told me about their similar experiences with Grey and the profound impact their relationship had on their life.

Grey graduated from Duke undergrad, was accepted into Duke Law School, and then took his life shortly after in 2020.

The beautiful and highly logical way Grey approached life is the philosophy which he continues to embody in my mind. He would always tell me to be proactive; if you are unsatisfied with the way things are, or have a goal for the way you want things to be, the only thing that you can do is take action in that moment you are thinking about it. For if you don’t, nothing will change until the next moment you think about it, where you face the same crossroads again with less time.

The first step is the hardest, and as long as you continue taking steps, you should be proud of the fact you are moving forward even if the end is still out of sight. One thing I can promise from Grey’s story is that the end is not everything; it is, of course, all about the journey, the people you meet along the way, and the impact you have on them.

I started this tribute by saying that Grey was my mentor, but the truth is, he never stopped. I hope that with this company, I can honor his legacy and continue his profound story.
